Talking About Heritage Survey 2025

Closes 7 Dec 2025

Opened 22 Aug 2025

Overview

What do you talk about when you talk about heritage?

Scotland’s heritage belongs to us all – from stone circles and high streets to tenements and schools. It may also be your local park, the venue where you saw the best gig you've ever been to, or the place you picture when you think of home. Heritage makes our communities special and it’s everything we inherit from the past that shapes who we are today as well as influencing our future.

Talking About Heritage is a national conversation. If you want to talk to us about heritage, we want to hear from you. What you tell us will have an impact on how we think about and care for heritage in Scotland. What heritage matters to you? How should it be looked after?

The survey is mostly multiple choice and should take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete. Nearly all of the questions are optional, so you may skip questions that don't feel as relevant to you. There’s also a final section about your demographic information – this is completely optional.

The survey will close for responses on Sunday 7 December.

Why your views matter

At Historic Environment Scotland, we work to recognise, record and protect some of Scotland’s most important places. And when places change, we give support and advice to make sure that they are protected in the long term. But we want to make sure that everyone’s voices are included in this future. Which is why we want to hear from you.
