Overview
We have been asked to consider designating Cathcart Buildings in Greenock town centre as listed buildings.
The buildings consist of 3 blocks of flats over shops on Cathcart Street. They were built in 1955–57 on the site of buildings destroyed during the Second World War.
We are currently in the early stages of gathering information.
A listing request does not mean that a building will definitely be listed. It means that we need to carry out research to inform an assessment.

How we designate
Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is responsible for designating sites and places at the national level. Anybody can ask us to consider a building, site or place for designation as a Protected Historic Place.
A dedicated team researches and assesses all designation requests.
